Is DISH Internet Service Any Good?

DISH internet offers internet services through a variety of different business partners. This means that its plans vary by region and that it is very difficult to compare them with those of other internet service providers. The company's services are primarily meant for rural internet users who cannot get DSL or fiber optic connections.

DISH internet offers satellite internet service to rural areas with no access to DSL or fiber optic connections. DISH also offers DSL and fiber optic connections in more populated areas. The company provides its services through partner companies such as HughesNet and Viasat. If you are shopping for an internet service provider and live in DISH's service area, you are probably wondering if the company is any good. Just read on to find out if it is.

DISH's Service Plans

It is impossible to fully describe DISH's internet plans because of their business model. The exact plans on offer in each area depend on which of DISH's partners serves the area, and what services they offer. Furthermore, many of DISH‘s internet plans are bundled with DISH TV packages, and so cannot be examined directly. However, DSL and fiber optic plans start at $19.99 per month, and increase in price from there. Satellite internet plans start at $27.99 per month in regions served by HughesNet, and $50 per month in regions served by Viasat. Some service areas cannot get speeds over 10 Mbps, others can get packages with speeds as high as 940 Mbps.

DISH's Availability

DISH services are available in one form or another in all 50 states. Packages with higher speed have less availability.

DISH's Prices

Because of DISH's business model, a direct comparison of all of the company's internet plans with other ISPs is not possible. The company's satellite internet services are often lower than those of the competition, however, and the speeds are comparable, and sometimes higher.

DISH's Fees

Some of DISH's packages, such as those that go through Frontier and Viasat, have no data caps, and hence no overage fees. Others do. Some have equipment fees, early termination fees, and installation fees.

DISH's Customer Satisfaction

The Better Business Bureau has given DISH an A+ rating, which means that the company hasn't received too many severe customer complaints.

The Takeaway

DISH is relatively hard to compare to other internet service providers. However, it seems to be most suited to customers who live in rural areas without DSL or fiber optic connections. In those areas, it seems to be a little cheaper and faster than its competition.
