A lien release is a document that you receive from Wachovia Dealer Services after paying off a vehicle. It states that the company has transferred the vehicle rights to you.

If you live in a state where customers hold the title, you will receive a lien release in your mail as soon as your loan has been paid off. Different states have different procedures for processing titles. If you are unsure of how to get yours, contact your local DMV.

Obtaining a Lien Release from Wachovia Dealer Services

When you have paid off your loan, you will receive a letter from Wachovia. The letter will notify you that your payments are complete. If Wachovia holds the title to your car, they will release it within 10 days of completing your payments.

Once your title has been released, they will contact your state to inform them that you need a lien release. In most cases, you will receive your lien release within 30 days.

If it has been over 30 days and you still haven't received a copy of your lien release letter, you may need to contact Wachovia's customer service team and ask for help.

If the title to your car is electronically maintained by your state, Wachovia electronically cancels its lien with the state. After the lien is released, you should receive a title in your mail within four weeks. Some states may expect that you request the title online or in person.

Other states mail a lien-free paper title to you if you are a registered owner. The entire process may take up to 30 days.

The release for your title may start within seven days if;

1. Your loan is paid by Automatic Loan Payment Program (ALP)

2. You pay your loan through Wachovia by phone

3. You pay your loan through Wachovia's website

4. Your loan originated from Ohio, North Carolina, Minnesota, Utah, or Oklahoma

It may begin within 10 days if your loan is paid by Bill Pay, personal check, Insurance check, or Escrow.

Your title release may begin within three calendar days if your loan is paid by;

1. MoneyGram

2. Cashier's check

3. Western Union

4. Bank official check

5. Money order

6. U.S Treasury check

7. Money order

8. Wire transfer

9. Local and state government check
